About Amit Singh – Lt. Amit Singh Memorial Foundation

Born on June 28, 1979, Lt. Amit Singh joined National Defence Academy (NDA) in the year 1999. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant and joined 1/9 Gorkha Rifles on June 3, 2000 after passing out from Indian Military Academy . The regiment moved to Kupwara , Jammu and Kashmir in July, 2000. The supreme sacrifice of Lt. Amit Singh was repeatedly mentioned during the function. He was remembered as a Martyr, an Immortal Hero, an Inspirer and an Ideal by the speakers and dignitaries during the Sangosthi. Some messages and poems were recited and written in his memory vis-à-vis his sacrifice, incorporated in the souvenir as well. Some of the views expressed are reproduced below.

DRIVING AND GUIDING FORCE: “Believe it or not but we have enormous reasons to believe that Amit (Tuddu) is still as good a part of our daily life as he was before his physical departure from all of us. He not only continues to inspire us but also is a perennial source of guiding and driving force in our life. We still feel the warmth of his love and experience him doing all that stuff which cheers us up when we are down. A BORN SOLDIER: Lt. Amit Singh would have chosen a safe and sparkling career owing to his brilliant and outstanding academic records and dynamism but his love for the motherland made him to chose defence service. From his very childhood, he inculcated patriotism and valued defence service. His zeal, enthusiasm and leadership were unparallel. At the juncture/ crossroads of life when one has to chose and weigh various options in hand leading to different paths of life offering varied comforts and luxuries, only the true nationalist and patriotic youth only opts for the path of defence services/ armed forces, the one chosen by the Lt. BRAVE HEARTS BLESSED: Almighty bless only the brave parents and task them to bring up such patriotic national heroes as Lt. Amit Singh who spread the essence of patriotism among the masses while moving on ahead in life as custodian of the memories of these immortal souls differently remembered as ‘Hero’, Martyr, ‘Shaheed’, etc. These brave hearts have an inexhaustive and unlimited natural strength and other such traits (gifted or acquired) very uncommon in human race that distinguish them from the general masses. A PHENOMENAL CHILD: Amit was described a phenomenon and a “complete child” by his teachers and classmates of his school – Kendriya Vidyala, Hebbal, Karnataka – where he studied. Good in studies, intelligent, industrious, exuberant in nature and always participative in events, he was the soul of his school invariably surrounded by his fiends quite alike “Lord Krishna” in his childhood. He was having innate leadership qualities in him which compelled him to take up the gauntlet all the time and anywhere. He is indubitably remembered as the most popular “Head Boy” of his school. The school celebrates ‘Veer Diwas’ in his memory. The principal has kept his photograph in the chamber and she once shared that she felt blissful and gets positive energy from his “Chaitanya”. Despite all the splendour and glamour around, Amit led a simple life. We have experienced him to be a man of high thinking. Probably this is the way sons of the soil are made up of.He reminds us of Abhimanyu of Mahabharat and the impressions and memories imprint him as disciplined young man full of life.
